The Nightingales - Four Against Fate (Tiny Global Productions)
11th Studio album from the creative talent that is Richard Lloyd and friends. Lloyd was there at the beginning of punk, his critically acclaimed band The Prefects, touring with The Clash back in the day. A constant fave of the legendary Radio 1 DJ John Peel through all the band's line ups, in fact only The Fall and Half Man Half Biscuit recorded more sessions for the great man. Like The Fall, Nightingales have chewed its way through a fair number of musicians, 25 to date, and like Mark E Smith, Richard Llloyd has been the only constant member.
This is the second album from current line up of Lloyd - Vox, Fliss Kitson - Drums/Vox, James Smith - Guitar/Vox and Andreas Schmidt - Bass/Keys/Vox, after 2018's fine Perish The Thought.
Opening track Thicko Rides Again has a B52's thing going on with the twin vocal attack, that's if The Shend was in the B52's! It also contains one of my favourites jokes. The one about the cowboy who kisses his horses arse because he's got chapped lips. Doesn't cure them but sure as hell stops him licking them!
